Biography

Hilary Goldberg's films and music videos--including in the Spotlight, Beyond Lovely, Transliminal Criminal, and Katastrophe's Big Deal --have been screened in venues around the world, from the American Cinematheque in Hollywood to the Women Make Waves Festival in Taiwan. Goldberg's latest film project, recLAmation, an experimental-documentary featuring animation and live narration by the filmmaker, is presently touring internationally with make/shift magazine . The Makeshift Reclamation tour has performed in a range of spaces including Barnard College, Wesleyan University, Uppsala Pride (Sweden), University of Salzburg (Austria), Allied Media Conference, US Social Forum, Kelly Writers House, The Olympia Public Library, Reed College, Left Bank Books, and The Oscar Romero Haus (Bonn, Germany). Goldberg's films have been screened at numerous festivals, including Outfest, Frameline, Reel Women International, Cheris Cheris Paris LGBT Film Festival, the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, the Hamburg Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, the Milan International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, Inside Out Toronto Lesbian and Gay Film and Video Festival , the Vancouver Queer Film Festival , the Seattle Queer Film Festival, Dark Arts Festival , and NewFest. Her filmmaking began with the 2002 release of the feature-length documentary Render: Spanning Time with Ani Difranco.

Goldberg is an internationally touring poet, writer, and spoken-word performer who has performed at the RADAR reading series, the California African American Museum, the Bumbershoot Festival, the Hopland Women's Music Festival, Reed College, and Oregon Country Fair, among other venues.

Goldberg has been a recipient of a Queer Cultural Center Creating Queer Community Grant and a Panavision New Filmmaker Grant. Her work has been profiled or reviewed in Bitch, make/shift, Curve, Girlfriends, and other publications.
