Hired Gun is the definition of emcee: skilled party rocker, and an ambassador for the art. Born in New Jersey he was raised on Black Pride, Middle Class numbness, a steady diet of overt racism, and DJ Red Alert. Very much aware of the traditions and heritage that make up the Diaspora, Hired looks to set upon the path of most resistance, share himself, and get you to question the world around you. As a lone artist, he brings raw energy and skill to the mic, while at the same time giving you his side of his people’s story. No apologies. No regrets. One of the most versatile emcees of his generation, he is Hired Gun.
A founding member of SayWord Entertaiment and the ESP Collective, Hired Gun has been a part of several critically acclaimed projects including “The Strange Force EP”, “Separation of Powers” and “Hip Hop in Strange Places”. 2008, saw Hired Gun release his first solo effort “The People’s Verses” to serious acclaim gaining accolades from the blogosphere and landing him within the pages of URB Magazine as one of 2009’s next 100 artists alongside the likes of Skyzoo, Asher Roth and Drake. The last year has also seen him tour internationally to Brazil, The Czech Republic, and Germany. He also in addition to being a member of Say Word and ESP is one of the African Underground AllStars, a collaborative hip hop ensemble backed by the international label, Nomadic Wax.
In the here and now is Fresh Roots Music a collective Hired Gun built on the idea of organic music and future primitive rhythms. Fresh Roots isn’t simply hip hop, it is ultimately the manifestation of the many sounds Hired Gun has been associated with including Jungle/Drum n Bass, and various other genres. Hired Gun has made various guest appearances on albums by Core Rhythm, Mista Mayday, Verseall, Agent Strange, and Phillip TBC and Beat Apetit in the Czech Republic. He has also shared the stage with Fatlip of the Pharcyde, Wordsworth, J-Live, Breezevahflowin, Rob Swift, Slick Rick and The Last Poets to name a few.
