Homegrown String Band

Biography

America’s premier purveyors of family style original & neo-traditional acoustic American roots music, The Homegrown String Band is a high energy 21st century incarnation of the traditional family band. This quartet of acoustic musicians from Rocky Point, NY, utilizes unique instrumentation (guitar, clawhammer style banjo, fiddle, mountain dulcimer, mandolin, banjo-ukulele, harmonica, jawharp, doumbek, and tambourine), percussive flatfoot dancing, and many varied musical influences to take their audiences on a rollicking ride through the sounds of American music. Their repertoire consists of traditional and original music inspired by the rural string bands that recorded during the 1920s and ‘30s, as well all the great American roots music that followed. This family that plays together continues an American tradition of families making music together by adding their two generations of musical experience to the melting pot of American music. The Homegrown String Band's musical odyssey has been a journey through the musical genres and geography of America; performing at bluegrass, blues, and folk festivals, from Maine to Missouri, including The National Theatre, The Festival of American Music, Musikfest, and The Appalachian Fiddle & Bluegrass Association Festival—since 1997. During this time the band has released four CDs, and their original music has been lauded as “heartfelt, original, and impressive” by major music publications Sing Out! and Dirty Linen. A "100% Natural & Organically Grown" family band! This nuclear family radiates fun!
