Hurshy Kalsi is a 27-year-old Aussie singer and songwriter who got his start at the age of 13. His love affair with the guitar started in a school music class. From there, his interest in musicians who both play and compose their own work inspired him to pursue a career in music. Though he has dabbled in bands at times, he seems to have found his acoustic rock rhythm in his solo work, taking ownership of every song from start to finish.
Although he has a Masters in Finance, he prefers to get geeky with his guitar. His influences are based on the music he grew up listening to, including Soilwork, Porcupine Tree, and Dream Theater, but his work also hints at some of the soft rock sounds of John Mayer and guitar masters like Joe Satriani.
His guitar riffs are definitely a driving force in all of his songs, including those on his latest 5-track album,Horizon on Fire. The five tracks on the album are rich and full, despite being written, composed, recorded, and mastered by a one-man band. His personal touch on every element is likely what allows the pieces to blend so naturally, leaving listeners with a more emotionally-pure sound. His latest single, a love song called All for You, typifies Hurshy’s style, as he takes on a whisper-like croon about two lovers torn apart by war.
With the success of his first album, Hurshy intends to continue recording through 2013, releasing his self-made singles until he completes his second EP. He will then likely begin the process of booking shows and playing at venues both in and outside of his home base of Sydney, Australia. Until then, fans can find him online at YouTube and Facebook and purchase his tracks at iTunes and CD Baby.
