Constantly defying their own name, I Am Demure is on a mission to prove just how ironic life can be. With powerful, edgy rock instrumentals mixed with severely catchy, dare one say even pop-like hooks and melodies, I Am Demure’s sound is anything but demure. The LA-based band brings together a notable set of players whose combined efforts bring passion, energy, and life to every stage they destroy. With the unique vocal style of Denise Lorraine, meshed with the crunch of Grammy nominated guitarist, Brandon ‘Bizzy’ Hollemon, and the hard hits of internationally touring drummer Rattan, this band contradicts what the era of female fronted rock sound alikes has come to be.
Denise Lorraine (aka Demure) fronts I Am Demure with charisma and raw, powerful vocals, leading you into an emotional trance where all you can do is submit and move along to the dance she lays out before you. While LA was following trends, this Indiana native stuck to her roots and has been one of the few female rock singers in an Indie saturated scene. Prior to IAD, Denise graced stages regularly all over LA as the frontwoman in the sought after all-girl alt-rock band, Anatomy of Her. They caught the eye of indie label, Golden Leaf Records, with whom they signed a management deal. “The music has soul; a raw, edgy undertone that complements an essence of feminine power, vulnerability and natural sensuality” recalls LA Splash journalist Anahid Shahrik. I Am Demure’s music continues where Anatomy of Her left off. Though off stage she may appear exactly as her band’s namesake, onstage she is aggressive and bold yet simultaneously relatable and compassionate in both presence and lyrics.
The diverse and multi-talented I Am Demure guitarist, Bizzy Thowed, throws the band straight into the center of a commercial rock sound. He brings with him a plethora of contrasting musical credits including works with artists such as Nikki Minaj (on the Grammy Nominated album Pink Friday), Pitbull, and Flo-Rida among others. He is perhaps most notably recognized from the hard rock-rap group Purple Popcorn, who backed rapper Mims for his hit song, “This Is Why I’m Hot.” Bizzy has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Regis and Kelly, and played on the Hennessy Artistry Tour. As if this wasn’t enough, he also attended Berklee College of Music for Guitar Performance and later became a nerd behind the board, studying Audio Engineering in Miami. Bizzy truly lives up to his name as founder of the publishing company, Mean Stringz Entertainment which has built an impressive catalog of music and in 2012 signed an Administration Deal with The Royalty Network. Inspired by the tragedy of the death of his father who was an avid lover of rock music, Bizzy developed a passion for rock, dedicating his musical ambitions to his father’s memory. His father would definitely be proud as Bizzy’s energy and emotion shine bright every time he plays.
Rounding out the group is former drum & bass dj and heavy metal drummer, Rattan, who quickly made a name for himself upon diving into the LA rock & roll world. With roots in the SF thrash metal scene, Rattan is known for his heavy hand and precise timing while still maintaining a soulful groove. In addition to I Am Demure, he pounds it out with fellow LA rockers, Cage9, and the Industrial rock group, Skumlove, and has sessioned for numerous other acts including the electro pop-metal band, Otto’s Daughter. Rattan has toured nationally and internationally sharing the stage with impressive acts such as Ozzy Osbourne, Static X, and Lords of Acid to name a few. Playing with Cage9 he headlined at the Miller Lite Extravaganza in Panama and Rock the Falls Festival in Utah, and shared a cruise ship playing alongside bands such as Buckcherry, Sevendust, Filter, Hell Yeah, In This Moment and many others on Shiprocked 2011. His numerous accomplishments led him to endorsements with Trick Drums and Xcel Drumsticks. The king of the castle, Rattan keeps I Am Demure in line with his impeccable timing, yet plays with heart and soul every time he addresses his throne.
Through the combined efforts of producer/engineer Evan Rodaniche of Cage9 & Powerman 5000, and IAD’s very own Bizzy Thowed, the band has been recording in full force. They’re gearing up for their debutante ball trading frilly dresses for combat boots with their freshman release. Their anticipated debut EP, “Everything Is Black & White”, is coming to a Tuesday near you. I Am Demure is “radio friendly – but still heavy – rock.”
