Ian Barton Stewart

Ian Barton Stewart was born and lives in Melbourne Australia. He learned the piano for over a decade with Melbourne Concert Pianist Mack Jost, and became a Fellow of Trinity College London in 1999, playing Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata and Scriabin's Black Mass Sonata. He is also a practising artist, recently graduating with a Master of Visual Arts degree from the Faculty of the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne, and he has an art website www.ianstewart-artist.com. He is also a barrister and holds a law degree from the University of Melbourne. His first novel, which explores the themes of romance, art and music, will be published in early 2013. His approach to performance and recording is that music is such a wonderful part of being alive that an interpreter's duty is to communicate the music to the listener as he or she feels it, so as to best convey the composer's intentions. That means making music accessible to all, regardless of whether they are trained in classical music or not.
