Ian Barton Stewart was born and lives in Melbourne Australia. He learned the piano for over a decade with Melbourne Concert Pianist Mack Jost, and became a Fellow of Trinity College London in 1999, playing Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata and Scriabin's Black Mass Sonata.
He is also a practising artist, graduating with a Master of Visual Arts degree from the University of Melbourne, and he has an art website www.ianstewart-artist.com. He is also a practising lawyer and holds a first class honours law degree from the University of Melbourne.

His piano playing has been described as deeply poetic. His favourite composers for the piano are Liszt, Chopin, Beethoven, Debussy, Brahms, Schubert, Bach, and Ravel.
