Ian Taunt

Hailing from Bletchley, in the somewhat uninspiring city of Milton Keynes, England, Ian Taunt produces music on his own in a tiny box room studio with the bare minimum of equipment and fuss.

A true child of the indie era, Ian’s style is somewhat fluid and often difficult to put your finger on. He puts this down to his songwriting process. Ian’s songs always start life with a melody and simple guitar track. From this, Ian adds layers of sounds, making liberal use of less familiar sounds like his beloved e-bow to build the final track . Ian isn’t a multi-instrumentalist or a ‘muso’ by any stretch, he makes music by ear and is proud of that fact.

Ian blends influences from rock and electronica to folk and has a love of real music that comes from the heart. Whilst primarily a guitarist, Ian combines often haunting guitar lines with synth parts, piano and drum machines with the occasional foray into more traditional indie tunes.

As a teenager, Ian fronted indie band Red Star Five which had moderate success and a loyal fan base. With those days long behind him, Ian’s music has matured with him. In his latest EP ‘Painting for Monochromats’, Ian tackles themes that will be familiar to many thirty something’s who are coming to terms with getting older.
