I-manii is an inspirational / positive reggae group out of Jamaica.
The word I-MANII is of African origin, which means 'hope', or 'faith'. The group emerged out of an acappella group called A.C.T.S, and since then has maintained a focus to bring out the sentiment of 'hope' in their songs, particularly with great concern for 'at risk' youths in the society. The aim is not to be ‘limited’, but to create different styles of music that cater to the social, spiritual, and emotional needs of the listeners, all in a positive way. The group's debut album, entitled 'Be Loving You' reflects this aim in their original Reggae Gospel album which consists of various styles.
Songwriter and lead singer Roan Brown founded the group in 2005 and started with three members. The first single recorded shortly thereafter was the roots rock reggae styled song, “Father & I”. What followed were the recordings of more inspiring and positively uplifting songs. A fourth member joined later during further production work, thus completing the unit.
I-manii has been performing on concerts, church based events, weddings and school functions around Jamaica especially in Kingston & St. Catherine. Memorable events for the group so far include those coordinated by saxophone great, Dean Fraser. These included performances alongside artistes such as Bengy Myaz, John Holt, A.J. Brown, Tarrus Riley, and Fab Five, to name a few. The group has also performed on annual events such as ‘Genesis’ (Jamaica Youth For Christ) and 'Rejoice' (The Emanuel Apostolic Church). In May 2013, I-manii was a guest artiste on the Jamaica Biscuit Company’s Labour Day concert at the Waterfront in Kingston featuring several top local acts. In June, I-manii sang at ‘Freedom Fest Concert 2013' headlined by Prodigal Son and Omari in Kingston, and was well received by a packed crowd (standing room only).
I-manii's main focus at this time (2013-2014), is (1) to energetically promote their album and (2) to help individuals who have serious spiritual and physical needs, in whatever way possible. The group's most important accomplishment to date has been the radio launch of their debut album titled 'Be Loving You' at Love 101 FM in Kingston (Dec. 2012). Presently, singles from the album such as, ‘Be Loving You’, ‘So High’, ‘Father and I’, and ‘Can’t Live without You’ are enjoying decent rotation on local and overseas radio stations. I-manii ‘s music is produced by the talented and accomplished musician, Richard 'Richie' Foulks.
