My name is James Rayfield, an amateur composer & songwriter from California. I compose songs that are mainly Nu Jazz, Lounge, & Chill style. My love for music is largely due to my mother's influence. She recorded gospel music back in the 1940's & 1950's before becoming a fulltime elementary teacher. I started writing lyrics at the age of 15 and composing at the age of 25.
My music is generally inspired by various artists I grew up listening to during my youth. Besides Nu Jazz, I like to challenge myself in composing other genres of music as well.
I enjoy composing using both my Yamaha YPT-300 keyboard and Akai MPK Mini Production Keyboard. The studio, which is located in my home, is simple yet effective making it possible for me to compose and master music. Utilizing several tools to aid in production such as Mixcraft 6, BIAB, ChordPulse & Audacity. My compositions are all original (no covers) and occasionally I use software to aid in the production of background music and solos. Most of the time I improvise my melodies and solos. Listening to the backgrounds I have composed, I improvise my melodies and solos over the backgrounds, making corrections to the recordings via software.
I hope you enjoy my music and I thank you, my fans, friends and family for your support. I'd also like to thank Jesus, for without him, this would not be possible.
