Southern California native Janene Lovullo began her career in Los Angeles where, at age 19, she was cast as Maria in Downey Civic Light Opera’s West Side Story. Following her first regional stage debut, Janene was cast The New York Shakespeare Festival’s "The Pirates of Penzance", her first Equity show at the Los Angeles Music Center. Following the Los Angeles run, she was cast in the 1st National tour (Pirate's) as Kate and later joined the Broadway company as Maureen McGovern’s understudy for Mabel.
During her years in New York, Janene performed in both the Broadway and National Tour of "CATS" (directed by Trevor Nunn) as understudy to Laurie Beechman. Janene was then cast in her dream role of Grisabella for the final two years of the First National Tour, closing the show in Boston. Her third Broadway show was "Les Miserables", performing the role of understudy to Randy Graff's, Fantine. She also performed with the Second National tour of "Les Miserables" (Fantine) and finally in the Los Angeles production of "Les Miserables" at the Shubert Theater in Los Angeles.
Currently, Janene performs in the Los Angeles area. Her last performance (prior to making her CD "This Moment"), was at Michael Sterling's supper club "Sterlings Upstairs at Vitello's" with her acclaimed show "You are My World". Don Gigware of BroadwayWorld.com comments on Janene’s talents. “To say that Lovullo is a consummate singer is an understatement. She has an astounding range with a delivery that would make many singers envious. She can be as dynamic as she wants to be, but will also lower her instrument to almost a whisper. For me, this is the mark of an exceptional artist who is first and foremost into telling the story of every tune she sings.
Janene's second CD recently released here on CD Baby in February of 2013 called "Broadway, Intimate". This 5 Star CD contains Broadway's most beautiful songs, intimately arranged.
