Jeff Palmer, John Abercrombie, Devin Garramone & Adam Nussbaum

Biography

Palmer and Garramone first crossed paths in Albany NY in the fall of 1991, where on that occasion Palmer was performing with Garramone’s mentor, the late tenor saxophonist J.R. Monterose. Following that brief encounter, the two musicians each went their separate ways until reacquainted over ten years later in 2003. They began performing together and within a few months recorded their debut album “Nite Blues” on the emerging Rank Records label, featuring guitarist John Abercrombie and drummer Adam Nussbaum. Gaining momentum, Palmer, Garramone, and Abercrombie recorded “Lovebirds” less than a year later, this time with Victor Lewis on drums. Garramone and Palmer continued to play locally in upstate New York for the next several years, the music taking a new direction as revealed in the 2009 release of “Mayhem” and a performance in New York City’s Greenwich Village. The album, as described by Bob Jacobson of jazzreview, is “high-spirited, energetic, inventive music” with “an adept combination of styles” including funk, free jazz, and soul jazz.
