Jenny Ah Chong (born Jennifer Butler) is a singer/songwriter from Cape Town, South Africa. She was born on 17 August 1979 in Randfontein, South Africa. She started playing the keyboard and singing at the age of 4. When she was 7 her family relocated to the small mining town of Aggeneys in the Northern Cape, and it was then that she began formal music lessons. In 1992 her family relocated again, this time to Fish Hoek in Cape Town. She continued with her classical training throughout high school.
At the age of 14 she began playing in a local church band, and at 15 she took an interest in playing the drums. It was around this time that she also ventured into songwriting, and she performed her first song at her high school variety concert. She soon began to make a name for herself in her community, and started dreaming of recording her music so that she could share it with the world.
When she was 17 she joined a large, well-known church and immediately got involved in their band. There she gained a lot of experience, working with other established musicians and developing her vocal and songwriting ability.
In 1997 Jenny met Warren Ah Chong, a guitarist from a Chinese family that had settled in Port Elizabeth. They married in 1999, and live in Cape Town with their 4 children, Daniel, Jami, Sarah-Morgan and Samuel. Jenny worked for a few years as a soundtrack composer at a multimedia company, after which she chose to be a full-time mother. She continued to write music and stay involved in her church band part-time.
In 2012 Jenny was introduced to Rob Harris and Dano McCollam from Sounds Of The Nations, who immediately showed an interest in her music and encouraged her to pursue her goal of becoming a recording artist when she felt she was ready. Soon after this she then began recording her long-awaited debut album at the Sounds Of The Nations studio in Cape Town, along with producers Timothy Feder and Jason Skippers. The album entitled "Love Perfection", was released in December 2012.
Her song "Your Love Is Enough" is featured on Songs For The Nations Vol 1, an album released by Sounds Of The Nations in 2012.
