Jessica Kent is a pop and country singer/songwriter from East London, South Africa. She has spent most of the last year writing and preparing to record with vocal coach Robyn Coldham. In December 2012 she recorded three original songs for her debut EP Right at the Top at Shaw Music Studios with producer Jon Shaw. The EP will be digitally released in February 2013 and will be available on iTunes and Amazon.com. She will also have a song, Little White Lie, on the compilation album The Chrysalis Project.
From a young age, Jessica has always been passionate about music – starting piano and vocal lessons when she was 13. In high school she continued studying classical piano and music theory which provided the foundation needed to crossover to guitar. In order to teach herself to play, she practiced Taylor Swift songs on an old electric guitar her brother had bought and never really used.
Since 2007, she has been writing and recording her own music and has worked with local producers Wayne Dalziel and Rigby Torrente. She has also recorded various cover songs in Perth, Australia and spent six months studying Music Performance at the Central Institute of Technology in 2010. But the recordings she is most proud of are the songs off Right at the Top: “I spent months trying to choose the right songs, practicing my vocals and trying to get the recordings to be exactly how I imagined them. I was involved in the creative process as much as I could have been and I’m excited to hear what everyone thinks of them.”
