Jetfly

Biography

Jetfly are a beat mix of leftfield UK folk, Violent Femmes and the Velvets.

Emerging from Bristol’s folk scene in 2006 they embraced not only the cities folk influences but its punk and diy scene. Based on the lateral songs of front man Jet McDonald “Punk Folk Disco” is an invitation to dance to a junior acoustic guitar being hit by someone who should have learnt how to use a bigger fretboard.

The sound is driven by Simon Van der Linde on bass and Joe Medler on drums with Hannah Porter on Melodica, Piano, Flute and Violin.

Jet McDonald and Jetfly have played at festivals all over the country including Glastonbury, Home Game (Fence), Secret Garden Party and Shambala.

2007 they released the Album “Flockabilly” (Cleaner Records).

Jet was born and raised in the New Forest before moving to Bristol. He writes songs for breakfast, lunch and supper. In between he writes modern folk tales and runs “Folk Tales” a monthly event bringing old and new folk traditions together for a bit of a bop. “A modern day troubadour”: Tom Hodgkinson author “How to Be Free”

Jetfly toured the UK the end of Oct/Nov 2009 with BBC 6 Music and Guardian feted “Hollowbody” and “Fingerless Hoodlum” and have won recent radio airplay including BB6 6 Music Tom Robinson "Introducing" Show.
