Jim Reeves is a recording artist that combines traditional country with different styles and influences to create some new music. Born in Texas and grew up playing the juke boxes in honky tonks for the beer drinkers and hell raisers. While in Texas he lived in an area where Little Joe y La Familia had their homes and record company. Attending Willie Nelson's first picnic at Dripping Springs outside of Austin, Reeves sang for cold water at the front gate as it was 102 desgrees. He later was a janitor in the recording studio in Jacksonville, Florida where alot of the great southern rock bands rehearsed and recorded. While in Florida he met and was inspired by David Allan Coe and the great songwriter, Shel Silverstein. Living in Jacksonville, he earned a Bachelors Degree in Literature and Film (specializing in Hemingway and Sam Pekinpah). Later Jim Reeves lived near Bakersfield where he was influenced by Buck, Merle, Gram Parsons, and later Dwight. He is now living in San Diego, California and Ensenada, Mexico recently where he has studied norteno, ranchera, and banda music in additon to revisiting his earlier influences.
"One of my most interesting influences was finding the infamous Gram Parson's cremation site in Joshua Tree Park and having a seance there one night with the Spirit of Gram showing up in the form of a coyote that walked right up to me and talked with his eyes. I spent that night in Room #8 of the Joshua Tree Inn where Gram left us and knew what he was talking about in his line: "no one knows inside, a cold wind blows. I'm Lonesome, and no one knows." jim Reeves, Not the Dead One; but Grateful.
