Jim Thompson lives in Decatur Georgia. Jim started playing music in the early 70's while attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He played with the Coonskin Boys around middle Tennessee at various festivals before going to Korea in the Peace Corps. While in Korea he continued his music performance once appearing on television. Upon his return, he continued playing music in Lexington Kentucky while pursuing a Masters in Agricultural Economics at the University of Kentucky and later the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He obtained a job as an Extension Agent in the coal fields of Virginia in Grundy Virginia where he formed a band called the Poetown Ramblers. With this band he recorded an album of original music called The Grundy Flood of 77 depicting life in Buchanan County Virginia. Jim later went to law school in Macon Georgia and has been working as an attorney for AT&T for over 25 years. He is now playing in a music group in Decatur called the Porch Bottom Boys.
