Joe Honea

There are some people who enjoy listening to music and some people who enjoy being a part of the music. Joe Honea is a person that enjoys every aspect of the music. He spends more time working behind the scenes for other artists as he does playing and promoting his own music.

Joe Honea was born and raised in Texas. He's been playing guitar since he was nine years old and has been writing songs since he was twelve.

When not writing and playing music, Joe spends some of his spare time working for other artists, doing the off-stage work. He has set up and tore down PA equipment, tuned guitars, helped run sound and sold merchandise for Tommy Alverson and many other Texas Artists including Walt Wilkins and the Mystiqueros, Brad Davis, Brian Burns, Randy Brown and the Tejas Brothers as well as many others.

If it hadn't been for a Songwriter Showcase, Joe may have never recorded a CD. "Super Picker and Grammy winner Brad Davis hosted a monthly Songwriter Showcase that I had been attending for about 6 months" Joe said. "One day after I played, Brad asked me why I hadn't recorded any of my songs. I said I was looking for the right opportunity to come along. He said that we should get together at his studio (which was only a couple of doors down) and record sometime. That was all it took."

Within a couple of weeks they had started on the CD "My Best". Joe had asked Brad's daughter Briley to play electric bass. As the project progressed, they called in seasoned musicians such as Thurston Selby on fiddle (Tommy Alverson Band) and Chris Brown on drums (Sam Bush Band). Tommy Alverson stepped into the studio to do harmonies on several songs as well. Landon Davis, Brad's son, got his first studio session playing rythm manodlin on Love's Blind. "It's nice to have such talented friends when you go into the studio" Joe said.
