Since finishing his music studies at Berklee College Of Music in the early 1970's (where he had the great fortune to have studied with Pat Metheny, Mick Goodrick and Gary Burton, among others), guitarist/composer Joey Goldstein has been performing his original jazz compositions in and around the Toronto area since the late 1970's.
In 1988 The Joey Goldstein Band (consisting of Michael Farquharson on bass, Boko Suzuki on keyboards and Mark Kelso on drums), recorded an album entitled "Time's Square (JG-001)".
Rounding the recording sessions out were Armando Borg and Mario DelMonico on percussion.
Although it was only released on compact audio cassette, this recording received ample airplay on many Canadian and US mainstream and campus radio stations and Joey's band worked regularly in Toronto and around Ontario as well as in Montreal.
In late 1993 Joey independently released his first CD entitled Joey Goldstein & Friends - A Strange Little Tune (JG-002).
This album was actually a partial combination of two separate projects (12 tracks in all, totailng almost 75 minutes of music) and contains four tracks from "Time's Square" along with eight newer pieces.
A Strange Little Tune features the talents of Doug Riley and Boko Suzuki on keyboards, Vito Rezza and Mark Kelso on drums, Michael Farquharson on bass, and Rob Bonisolo on tenor saxophone.
Joey also has a new album with 8 new original jazz compositions, The Joey Goldstein Quartet - Thanks Charlie (JG-003), which was released in April 2013 and features John Johnson on saxophones, Jim Vivian on bass and Vito Rezza on drums.
All 3 of Joey's albums are currently available on CD Baby as well as most of CD Baby's associated sites like iTunes and Amazon, etc.
Currently (2013), Joey plays regularly in the Juno Award winning (Best Traditional Jazz Recording - 2011 for Our First Set) modern-jazz big-band, John MacLeod's Rex Hotel Orchestra, and continues to perform and/or record with many of Canada's finest jazz musicians.
John's big band also has a new recording scheduled to be released in late April 2013.
