Bio: "the PLOWOLOGY of JOHN BROWN."
Born into the chaos of the late 60’s and torn between the unyielding philosophies of the Bible Belt, the spirituality of the civil rights movement and the idealism of the hippie culture, JOHN BROWN is part classic storyteller, part southern medicine man…an artist who plants a musical landscape influenced by Jackson Browne & Little Feat, Jimmy Buffet and Mark Twain, Lyle Lovett and the Bible.
Raised on the tobacco roads of eastern North Carolina, John has toured, written, and recorded music with a who’s who of major recording artists, producers and songwriters, including John Berry, Martina McBride, Billy Dean, Susie Boggus, John Hiatt and the Zac Brown Band. A respected Nashville session musician, John sowed the first seeds of his unique artistry with his 2003 recording, NEXT OF KIN. That same year he was co-writer/sound designer with americiana/classical composer Conni Ellisor on the hit musical/ballet, The Bell Witch Ballet, which was nominated for the 2004 Benois De La Danse awards. John's classic song "REAL THINGS," co-written with country artist Billy Dean; was the title track of Joe Nichols' 2007 Universal South major release, receiving a New York Times Critic's Choice review and garnering Rolling Stone praise, "in the Guy Clark mode." Also a budding serious author, his writings bookended the Zac Brown folklore/cookbook, "Southern Grounds" from cover to cover.
It's Jackson Browne going country, Jimmy Buffet hitting land, jiving with Mark Twain, Randy Newman meets the Apostle Paul... a virtual BBQ-Baptist Buddha homecoming. Whether captivating listeners with poetic lyrics & sultry southern grooves, pontificating from his literary collection, THE BOOK OF ROOSTER, or reinventing covers, John Brown has one thing in mind and PLOWOLOGY is "The Root of it All"
