John Flynn Lambertville, NJ
I classify my music as Adult Contemporary Alternative rock, ska and soul with funky jams thrown into the mix. I'm experienced musician playing keyboards and the trombone in popular working bands around the New Jersey and New York area such as Third Rail, 23A and Tabasco Road. I play my original music with my home town band "The Shackers". We have established a strong local following playing original music thrown in with some rock, soul and jam type covers. Most bands will not attempt original music in fear that the musical universe would collapse and their fans will reject them. That's not us. Watching people dancing and enjoying your music is a rush and it inspired me to record.
My new cd "Heading for the Sun" blends a funky mix of rock, ska and soul that jams, drives, grooves in an eclectic collection of songs that touch on the realities of our daily lives. I recorded the cd at Thunder Pumpkin Records with sound and recording engineer John Sonntag who is a great song writer and musician in his own right. John not only did great job of recording but also plays guitar, bass and sings background on the cd along with members of the Shackers and other musician friends.
Heading for the Sun includes songs that have a groove reggae style with power horns and great backup vocals (Home), fast up-tempo ska riffs that jump(Policeman), bass driven jam riffs that rock (Destiny and Billy's Bomb) a jammy groove feeling (Looking Out From Within) and even a holiday song (Khristmas Kool). The title track is a poppy rocker that tells a story of a fading relationship that has great vocal harmonies and fitting 12 string guitar licks (Heading for the Sun). Here is what others have said about my music:

Comments on Policeman:
Artist wins over his audience with a catchy hook and light hearted feel bound to get the dance floor hopping. Light hearted songs with comedic twists can be refreshing to hear in this angst radio driven world. You can take on a lot of topics that a straight forward song can't. The overly serious "save the world" type songs can get dreary, but with sarcasm you can make a serious topic "palatable".
Joe Vitale is an American musician primarily known as a drummer but also a flautist, keyboardist and singer. He has played with many of the top names in music during a career dating back to the 1970s such as Joe Walsh, the Eagles, Boz Scaggs and others.

John P. Flynn's song "Billy's Bomb" is a profound musical statement. It's a modern day look at some of the building fears that we all face in our day to day lives. John really points out key issues that we should all be aware of. GREAT job John !!
