Although John Krantz has been playing piano and studying the jazz idiom for many years, it was in 2006 when he began working with other musicians on a regular basis after decades of dedicating his life to a family business. Influenced musically by what he was exposed to when living in Boston in 1976, John's style has evolved into an amalgamation of the many legendary pianists that he admires. He loves to play the standard jazz repetoire - both the classic show tunes that jazz players have adopted as well as those composed by the jazz greats.
John has released two CD's on CD Baby and is about to release a third. His first two, "John Krantz Trio Plays Standards" and "John Krantz, Solo and Duo Reflections" are still available and the third recording anticipated to be released by April 1 is a total departure from the style and format of the other two. The new CD will be a quintet recording paying homage to the hardbop style of the 60's with some lesser known compositions by Lee Morgan, Kenny Drew, Cedar Walton, Hank Mobley along with a couple of seldom heard standards.
