Jonathan Allentoff is an active conductor, composer, and performer in the Greater Rochester, NY area. Jon attends Delta College at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, where he is pursuing his degree in Interdisciplinary Arts for Children with Music Specialization and an Applied Music Minor. He studies conducting with Dr. William Hullfish, music education with Dr. Natalie Sarrazin and Mr. Kevin Warner, and violin & viola performance with Dr. Thomas Saul. Jonathan is the Music Director of the Brockport Symphony Orchestra at The College at Brockport. He performs as principal viola with the Brighton and Greece Symphony Orchestras, and he performs on violin and viola in the RIT Orchestra, and with the Penfield Symphony. He is the concertmaster of the Brockport String Trio and also sings in the Brockport College-Community Chorus. He has studied theory with well-known Brockport professor, Dr. Herbert Wise, and conducting technique with renowned educator, Mrs. Dianne Howard.
He appeared as viola soloist in the July 2009, 2010, and 2011 Greece Performing Arts Summer Concerts performing his compositions for viola and orchestra under the direction of Dr. David Fetler. He performed in a jazz master class with the Roberto Occhipinti Quartet and in Paul Gaspar’s Eastman Recital Orchestra. Jon has conducted the Brighton, Pittsford Mendon, and Temple Beth El Klezmer Orchestras. He recently conducted the premiere of his Brighton Divertimento with Dr. John Marcellus of the Eastman School as trombone soloist. Jon is an ASCAP composer and his works have been performed at The College at Brockport, Hochstein School of Music and Dance, American University, Marshall University, Caldwell College, Walt Disney World, and at NYSSMA Festivals. He has arranged custom works for the Brighton, Greece, Penfield, Pittsford Mendon, and Temple Beth El Klezmer Orchestras, Rochester Chamber Orchestra, Gibbs & Main Chamber Ensemble, and the Brockport College-Community Chorus. His works have also been performed by members of the League of American Orchestras, summer youth orchestras, and college and professional orchestras in Canada, Italy, and Australia.
Jonathan distributes his music internationally through his own ASCAP music publishing business, Allentoff Music www.allentoffmusic.com. His American classic song arrangements are licensed through Warner Bros. and Alfred Publishing, Ludlow Music, and the Stratford Music Corporation. He is a member of CODA, College Orchestra Directors Association, NAfME, National Association for Music Education, NYSSMA, New York State School Music Association, and ASTA, American String Teachers Association.
