Jorge Alberto “El Gallito del Son” was born on April 11 in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba: singer, composer and improvisational performer extraordinaire.
In 1983, Jorge Alberto participated in the World Festival of Youth and Students in Korea and in 1988, he formed his first band called "Juventud 2000" and performed throughout Cuba and in International venues and festivals. In 1995, he formed a septet group called “Jomaly” which spawned a tour in Portugal, Spain, Germany, France, the United Arab Emirates.
Jorge Alberto was influenced by the legendary “Sonero” Compay Segundo with whom he traveled to Mexico and developed a love of the traditional Son as well as the desire to bring this distinctive Cuban sound to younger generations.
Subsequently, Jorge Alberto meets Polo Montañez “El Guajiro Natural” and discovers the magic of writing and composing wholesome music. He traveled to Miami in 2002 and was introduced to the renowned sonero Israel Kantor who “baptizes” Jorge Alberto “El Gallito del Son:” “The little rooster of the Son.” Along with the Maestro Israel Lopez Cachao, he is enriched by his love for the Son: the Cuban peoples’ roots. That same year, Jorge Alberto is awarded the Premio Ambiente.
His music is heard on radio stations worldwide and has appeared on a variety of television shows. He is regularly featured in street festivals, such as the Carnaval de Calle Ocho in Miami, FL, and in events sponsored by the League Against Cancer, among others.
He recently released his first American-based production titled “Mi Tumbao” (“My Beat”) which includes 10 tracks, one of which pays tribute to the “Vallenato” style.
“El Gallito del Son” began his promotional tour in the U.S. and was recognized as the “Artist of the Year” in the Cuban Parade of New Jersey, joined by Albita Rodriguez, and Hansel and Raul.
He has performed in various clubs throughout the New York metropolitan area and was invited to perform on the Telemundo 47 float during the 2010 Puerto Rican Parade in Mahattan, joined by Maria Celeste Arara, Jerry Rivera and Victor Manuel. His tour continues to Canada , Mexico, South America and Europe.
In 2011, Jorge Alberto will be releasing a single titled "El Run-Run," which includes three tracks that pay tribute to the "Son Montuno" style born in Cuba and made famous worldwide by the Buena Vista Social Club.
