Josée Allard

Confidence inspires artistic growth. Josée Allard’s musical success springs from a belief in her artistic
abilities and a willingness to take chances. These qualities lead her to a richer experience of life that is
reflected in her art. Allard is an award-winning singer, songwriter and guitarist, and a bilingual artist.
Her music has been described as catchy, fresh and mesmerizing and is quickly gaining wider
recognition. Her new album, La Sirène, has been nominated for Outstanding Francophone Recording
at theWestern Canadian Music Awards.

Allard describes the new album as “up close and intimate with a folk-pop style.” It features love, dance
and pop songs. Allard’s smooth, strong, versatile voice unifies its diverse sounds.

Allard was raised on BC’s coast, in Powell River and Victoria. She began her musical career at age 10 by
singing in choirs and writing songs. While attending high school at Victoria’s l’Ecole Brodeur, she
became the lead singer for Les Generations, a band that toured French schools in BC.

To date, Allard has released albums in English and French and her music has been featured on national
radio, live TV appearances, compilation and fundraising CDs and in a documentary. “The magic that
can happen on stage between musicians” is what inspires Allard when she performs.“The spontaneity
between musicians is another dimension. When the audience and musicians are there, it’s magic.”

Allard plays solo shows and festivals around North America and has opened for respected artists like
Diane Dufresne and Jean Leloup. Her venues are expanding, from Pacific Idol and New Music West,
Allard has gone on to perform at the Palace Station Casino in Las Vegas,Vancouver’s Canada Place, and
will perform at the 2009 Vendredis de la Chanson Festival at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

Allard’s approach to writing and recording music is informed by her confidence to trust her instincts
and abilities. When she writes a song, “it usually comes in the form of music first. I’ll play a chord, it
strikes me, takes me somewhere, I’ll compose a melody. The song travels, I’ll put in the chorus, the verse,
the bridge. I sing words that feel good and go with the melody.”

In her future, Allard envisions writing a new English album and more touring in the US, Canada and
abroad. When not busy recording and performing, Allard enjoys volleyball, camping, travelling to
Mexico and spending time with her husband and four dogs.
