Juan Carlos Vega-Martinez (b. Puerto Rico) earned a Doctorate in Musical Arts from Boston University; an M.Ed. in Music from Cambridge College; and a BA in Music Education from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. As a musician, Vega plays the piano for the Symphonic State Band of Puerto Rico and has been actively playing with Latin artists such as Lucecita Benitez, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Lissette, Cucco Peña, Alexandre Pires, inter alias. He is a co-author of the Book "Breve Historia de la Música en Puerto Rico" (2001) and the Executive Producer & Music Director of "Popssical" - Classical goes to Latin (2005).
Since 1996, have worked at the Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola where initiated the music department & assumed some leadership positions. At the college level, have taught undergraduate & graduate students in music theory, music history, composition, vocal diction, sight singing & piano/keyboard skills. Concurrently, have worked as a Senior Instructor of Education, Adjunct Assistant Professor & Faculty Academic Advisor for Master’s Degree Students at Cambridge College (Distance Learning) and at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.
Dr. Vega has more than 20 years of experience on the business side of the music entertainment, recording & performance industry. He has successfully conducted numerous ensembles including choirs, bands & orchestras and has been actively involved in multiple committees, and several national & international professional associations and organizations. Also, Vega has been a musical coordinator & performed as a pianist/keyboardist for events at Puerto Rico, United States, the Caribbean & across many countries, among many other musical & educational involvements.
