Julien Wilson

For the last two decades Julien has been an exciting and integral member of the Australian Jazz Scene. He has released over a dozen CD’s as leader or co-leader and been an integral member of a number of critically acclaimed co-operative bands. His tenor saxophone style is instantly recognizable, but can cover an incredibly broad stylistic and emotional spectrum. He has received numerous awards and spent extended periods living in Zurich and New York. He regularly performs with Australia’s best jazz and popular musicians, and has collaborated with international artists including Kurt Elling, Jim Black, Charlie Haden and Hermeto Pascoal. His recent performance at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival with US saxophonist, James Carter was one of the highlights of the festival.

The Julien Wilson Trio has been praised as one of the most original groups in Australia and has performed sold out concerts at the Berlin Jazz Festival, Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Melbourne International Arts Festival and the Sydney Opera House.

In 2013 Julien founded lionsharecords to release and distribute his own music, both on CD and in audiophile quality, high definition 24bit downloads. The first two releases on lionsharecords are due to be released in November at the 2013 Wangaratta Jazz Festival. They are quite contrasting albums but both are musically and sonically constructed with the utmost of care and the finest attention to detail.

This is Always is Julien’s first album with a classic jazz quartet. It is essentially a ballads album in the style of the famous 50s/60’s Prestige “meeting session” recordings and features the incredible touch of pianist Barney McAll (NY) with the first time meeting of an exceptionally well matched rhythm section of Sydney’s Jonathan Zwartz on bass and Melbourne’s Allan Browne on the drums.

Swailing is the Julien Wilson Trio’s long overdue follow up to the popular Trio-Live (2007). 2014 will mark the trio’s tenth year of performing together. They have created a stunning album utilizing the recording studio with master engineer Niko Schauble, and the sound has been lovingly crafted by mix/master guru Lachlan Carrick (Lior, Gotye).

High definition downloads of both albums can be found at
