Kamakura

Biography

On and off for the last few years Nick Calvert and Mick Dorey have been revolving around and around each other's music like an out of control, despotically frabjous, fun-fair ride.

After writing lots of film and corporate music, and after many gigs in various dives around the London scene, Mick Dorey of 'Mick Dorey and the Sirens' and 'Toltex 9' (Illegal Records / EMI / MCA) and Nick Calvert of 'The Sirens' (MCA) moved to the south coast and started Kamakura in 2004, pulling in Peter White on Drums and David Loach on Bass.

The next while saw a lot of gigs, writing, and line up changes.

Performing both as a two piece and as a full band, Kamakura decided to record their third album in late 2008.

After a disastrous hard drive failure and the usual music business shenanigans killed off their ardour, the band took a sabbatical. Re-forming as a three piece, with Mark Wright on lead guitar, they began recording again.

In early 2010 the twelve tracks of 'Dealing With Liquids' were finished, then mastered by Andy Jackson - Pink Floyd's mastering engineer.

Dealing With Liquids
2010
Although the bands influences are evident and one could liken each song to a favourite past artist, the truth is that their songs are very much their own. Imaginative, innovative, unique, and very exciting.
