Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Kari Newhouse has been playing guitar and creating music since the tender age of five. Pleading with her parents for guitar lessons, she was told by several teachers she was just too young. But after visiting many music shops and meeting with many guitar teachers, Kari captured the eye of a young musician who offered to teach her. And with just a few chords, her love and need for creating music grew.
Kari has always been fascinated with the recording aspect of music. She’s progressed from recording on her Dad’s reel-to-reel to doing most of her recording in her own home studio. She helped produce and record her two albums, “Playing Juliet,” released in 1996, and “Lit at Both Ends,” released in 2004. Kari’s first album, “Playing Juliet,” was recorded in Detroit, Michigan, at Rustbelt Studios with her good friend, Al Sutton. Sutton is best known for his work with Kid Rock, Big Chief, and Thornetta Davis. Newhouse and Sutton worked together from 1996 until 2000 when Kari moved to Los Angeles. She played shows throughout the L.A. area, where she met producer/engineer, Martin Carrillo. Carrillo is best known for his award-winning sound design. Newhouse and Carrillo recorded her second album, “Lit at Both Ends,” at Heardrum studios in Sunland, California.
Newhouse is undoubtedly a true artist. Always creating, there is never a shortage of new, exciting songs. The wide range of melted genres she has incorporated into her style is sure to capture the ears of the most diverse music lovers.
Now in Portland, Oregon, Kari is currently recording “Songs from Apartment 4” to be released soon.
