“Our lives are all about the connections we make with ourselves, each other, and the Universe.”
Karin Hovey is a New Hampshire native. She grew up listening to her father and uncles play music at home. “They were not professionals,” Karin says, “they would just get together with their guitars and harmonicas and sing.” Karin started playing guitar and piano as a child, but it wasn’t until much later that she was inspired to sing and write songs. “I always loved to sing – in the car, the shower – but I was too shy to really sing much in front of people.” Now, it seems, Karin has a lot to say, and she is not afraid to share it in her songs. Her lyrics are honest and come from her heart. And others feel it, too. Karin says, “It is nice when someone says they like your song, but it is a wonderful feeling when someone says, ‘That song is about me – I have the same feeling!’ When a song really gets to you, it is because you have made some connection with it in your own life, consciously or not. Writing songs is not only a way to express myself, but also a way to connect with others in a great big sea of churning emotions.” Karin is also a fine artist. She has been painting professionally since 1997. Karin enjoys painting the constantly changing sky and the always in-motion ocean. Her favorite medium is watercolor. Her work is currently on display at East Colony Fine Art, in Manchester, NH.
