Kathy X

Biography

Kathy X was formed in Berlin 2002 by UK guitarist and singer-songwriter Kathy Freeman, veteran of many punk, rock and psychobilly bands, including the Accelerators, The Birdhouse and Death Valley Surfers.

The core members are Kathy Freeman and Rob Raw, who has also played with Mad Sin, and was a founder member of cult oldschool psychobillies The Rawheads. From 2002-2006, former US session musician Dave Crome (sideman for Bo Diddley, Del Shannon, Wolfman Jack and Danny and the Juniors) occupied the drumstool. In 2004 Kathy X recorded CD album Ready For Anything for the Polish label Cosmic Records. Kathy X has opened for Dick Dale, the Meteors, the Long Tall Texans and the Horrorpops among others and has played extensively in Europe.

While Kathy X's music is rooted in rockabilly and psychobilly, the subject matter of many of the songs are not necessarily typical of these genres and the arrangements and hooklines reflect a more mainstream, crossover sound.

Nowadays Felix “Dr. Duck” Burckhardt occupies the drumstool and Kathy X continues to play live shows both at Berlin club venues and - in a semi-unplugged style - in Berlin’s burgeoning lofi “Salon” scene. Founder member Kathy also performs solo shows, while Rob Raw has been a member of wall city punk trio PVC.
