PERFORMER/PLAYWRIGHT/COMPOSER/WORKSHOPS
Katie Ketchum was born in the gold country of California. She sang with her father and grandfather who were both professional musicians and had one of the early California country bands called "The Good Old Boys".
Intent on becoming a concert pianist, Katie attended the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto Canada. She studied composition with Canada's top composer Dr. Samuel Dolin and piano with Weldon Kilburn a Columbia Recording artist.
After winning many piano competitions sponsored by Her Majesty the Queen of England, Katie decided she would rather sing songs she had written so she proceeded to perform concerts throughout the United States and Canada. Her songs were heard by Mother Teresa and played in her rehab centers throughout India and on Canadian television.
Inspired by an art class that she took, Katie started composing musicals about great women in history. Mary Cassatt, Mary Magdalene and Clara Schumann. Magdalene was picked up by the Sacramento Theatre Company for a full 28 show run. Cassatt was invited to many universities and colleges including Boston University and Northwestern. Katie performed Clara Schumann in San Francisco and at the Cranberry Coast Concert Festival in the Cape Cod area.
Katie has performed at universities, theatre, colleges, cultural centers, concert halls and schools throughout the United States and Canada and has CD sales in many countries including South Africa and India.
She offers workshops in vocal technique, performing and songwriting for adults as well as performances of her great women in herstory musicals. She has founded a piano and voice school for children at Sebastopol Center for the Arts. For performances or workshops please visit Katie's web site at www.katieketchum.com
