Kelly McCarty is a graduate of Kansas State University, where he had the pleasure of studying with Dr. Wayne Goins. While earning his BM in Music Theory and Composition, he was fortunate enough to perform on tours throughout the South Pacific in 2006 and South America in 2007. Upon completion of his degree, McCarty was subsequently hired by KSU to serve as their Adjunct Professor of Jazz Bass.
In the fall of 2009, McCarty migrated to Florida State University to pursue an MM in Jazz Studies under renowned bassist Rodney Jordan. Among the highlights of his time at FSU were playing opportunities with Jimmy Cobb, Danny Gottlieb, Marcus Roberts, Jason Marsalis, Ron McCurdy, Leon Anderson, and Longineau Parsons.
Building on a busy 2012-2013 with releases from Steve Scholz, Alex Ariff, Canadian vocalist Valerie Bouchard, plus his own 8-string trio’s RouxSteady, McCarty is now slated to release A Periapsis Suite, a five-movement work released on 72 Offsuit Records.
