Kid Kazooey is the Singin’ & Swingin’ Librarian. A graduate of IU’s School of Library and Information Sciences (Yup, that’s Kid Kazooey MLS!), this renegade librarian discovered early on that no library walls could contain him for longer than 45 minutes at a time. Seizing a life long dream to have all IRS reported income be from music making, The Kid assembled the genre hopping ensemble, The Ballroom Roustabouts. In an effort to promote, encourage and inspire reading, active imagination, and merry making, these hard working entertainers have performed at schools, libraries, festivals, birthday parties, street corners, car dealerships, and even weirder places than that, all the while spreading the good news of Storysinging Dance Music* for the young and young at heart.
Kid Kazooey & The Ballroom Roustabouts are; Kid Kazooey, the musical director and benevolent dictator on guitars, tenor banjo, all types of keyboard instruments, jaw’s harp, and of course the kazoo; Gantzy Dander on drums, flute, accordion, lead vocals, and the carbide tipped contraption; Tugboat Wittman on bass, who moonlights as Mel Bay; Murray Sumtimes on sax and clarinet, but only sometimes; and the great Arbutus Cunningham on recorder and melodica. (Though not currently, as we’re having a hard time convincing her to return from her most recent sabbatical!)
*When folks ask us what kind of music we play, we tell ‘em, Storysinging Dance Music! Upbeat music that explores the function, location, and creation of Story in our everyday lives!
