I always loved singing. I started when I was in diapers. Now I know that God created me that way. So I can't help it!
I grew up with jazz. My father was a jazz pianist by profession I remember him playing "My Funny Valentine" on the baby grand while my mother sang. This is still one of my favorite songs.
In a recent interview I was asked: "What brought me to this point in my life?" I rephrased the question to: "Who brought me to this point in my life?" My answer: Adonai's grace and mercy in His son Jesus the Christ. The same is true for everyone. When I look back on my life, the answer is and will always be Adonai.
"Adonai" means "the Lord" in Hebrew. "Yeshua" is Hebrew for "Jesus." I use these names in my music so I wanted you to know what they mean.
I'm not an entertainer, per se. I'm a worshipper of the Lord to whom He's given the gift of music to express who He is and His will and purpose. I'm a minister of His music. It's funny about music. I use to think that music only entertained. But, in truth, it ministers to you, either to your flesh or to yourspirit.
Before being saved, I gigged with bands singing funk and R&B, songs that made people dance. I also starred in a couple of off-Broadway musicals. You can probably hear these genres in my voice. You'll probably want to dance to my music.
You see, God hasn't changed my style since He saved me. What's changed is the focus and purpose of the music He's given me. The focus is Jesus the Christ. The purpose is exalting the Lord and delivering His gospel in my music.
People have said to me that I don't sound like most black Christian artists. I'm guessing that means that I don't have the "gospel" flavor. That's probably because I didn't sing gospel growing up. But then again, to me, anything that is about the good news of the Kingdom of God is the gospel. People say "Your music is different. It doesn't sound like anyone else." What you hear is what comes out of me through the Spirit in me. Jesus is like no one else. He was filled with and led by the Spirit.
I've had the opportunity to work witih very gifted people like Donnie McLaurin (song writer/producer), Steve Ebhodaghe(song writer/producer), Joshua Patini (bass), Solomon Ekwukoma (drums), Kwame North (rap artist), and vocalist/recording artists Angela Bryant-Brown and Lisa Glover. They are not famous by the world's standards, so you probably don't know them. But, they yet they are well known by King Jesus.
I'm devoted, a slave to the ministry of reconcilation the Lord has given me in Christ Jesus, having been one of the greatest sinners saved by His grace and mercy. People have said that, in my music, they can hear the Father’s cry to the lost to be reconciled to Him through His Son Yehoshua the Messiah. It's the cry of the Holy Spirit to you. It's my cry to you, too.
I always tell people that each song was prepared for me before the foundation of the earth. It's taken the sum of my experiences from my birth out of my mother's womb to being born-again in Christ, straight through to the last track that is recorded, mixed, and mastered.
The Lord has also blessed me with several opportunities concerning the music ministry. One in particular was singing at the 21st Biennial Gospel Industry Retreat, the brainchild of Dr. Bobby Jones and recording artist Vicki Winans.
I've also been asked "Where do you go from here, what are your future plans and vision for your ministry?" My answer: Adonai called me out of darkness into His kingdom of light. I can't go anywhere better than that! Having tasted Him and knowing that He is good, I want others to be saved, too, just like He does. The vision is to complete the ministry of reconciliation God has given me."
I'm married and have 2 daughters. I serve as a Worship Leader and the Deacon of Outreach at The Triumphant Church, Springfield, VA (www.triumphantchurch.org)
I also use the name "K.I.M." which stands for "Kingdom Inspired Ministry." "Kingdom refers to the Kingdom of God. "Inspired" refers to the Holy Ghost. "Ministry" refers to the ministry of reconciliation given to me by God in Christ to do on earth.
I really hope that you are blessed by this music so much so that you will get up and dance before the Lord!
