Coming from musical roots that run generations deep, it would seem to most onlookers that Luke Hinson’s music has been honed over years of practicing and performing, singing around the family piano, or eagerly jumping on stage or behind the mic at every opportunity – a natural would-be progression of exposure to all kinds of music and musical settings since early in his life. But the truth about Luke’s emergence into the musical limelight is much different. While his grandparents and great grandparents circled around the piano eagerly to sing good old gospel tunes at every opportunity; while his parents spent weekends playing concerts and leading worship all around the small town he calls home; a shy kid sat mostly in the wings observing, never quite committing to the passion that was apparently brewing inside of him.
Then one high-school summer, the virtual floodgates of music obsession could be held back no more. After disappearing into his basement for a few weeks, Luke emerged with a new-found direction. He had surely been listening, soaking it all in. Music had come and there was no turning back. Self-taught on drums and piano, Luke began to find his voice behind the mic almost immediately. The few years since then have revealed a steep trajectory of progressing, learning, improving and honing his skills while using his new-found talents in live performances, theater settings, and for the most meaningful purpose - WORSHIP!
Luke’s spiritual growth may be the one thing that has outpaced his musical growth during this time. With a commitment to help those who are in bondage and under severe persecution, Luke founded Project RockSafe in 2012. Project RockSafe has already made a substantial contribution to the International Justice Mission (IJM) in 2012 to assist their efforts in combatting modern day slavery and sex trafficking all over the world. Luke’s commitment to these and other causes are not sideline items on his life agenda, but the driving forces behind his hearts direction, and a roadmap for his future.
With his first recording project – “Coming Home” – under his belt, Luke appears to be well on his way to establishing himself as a meaningful voice for his generation. The influences of faith, culture and nostalgia are all undeniably evident in this six song EP album. With both the style and substance to reach many ears, and the heart to touch many lives, this project and this artist unveil their musical roots and are poised to plant an inspirational seed that just might take root in each of us.
