Biography

Pianist Laura Leon is heralded for the special touch she brings to her performances at the piano. Broadening the spectrum of where American music can be experienced, she brings an exciting roster of composers and their works to audiences beyond traditional concert venues to new settings, special events and unique recordings.

These include this past Spring' s concert celebrating the internationally renowned and beloved Peter Schickele, on his 75th birthday at Steinway Hall in New York, Heifer international's Bee Day Celebration, premiering film composer Mark Isham's The Secret Life of Bees-Suite for Piano , the world premiere of Matilda Variations --based on Australia's unofficial anthem, Waltzing Matilda at the New York Austrlaian Consulate-General, and many more.

Laura has created and collaborated on several live multimedia works, including Found in Nature, which appeared in New York and Prague, and PRO.JECT with music by Steven Rosenhaus, images by Barry Rosenthal and dramatic backdrop design by Sandro LeFerla. She was the music director for the Emmy award-winning documentary The Hidden Life,which aired on PBS, and featured both her solo performances and collaborations with flutist Amy Ziegelbaum.

Laura's CD albums span a wide and unique range of repertoire--Changing the Pace, transforming classical pieces into jazz and blues gems with a fantastic ensemble of some of the leading jazz and popular musicians today, including Grammy award-winning saxophonist Richie Cannata; and Preludes to Passion-a collection of short, beautiful solo piano works exploring in the inner realm of the piano by Aaron Copland, J.S. Bach, Sting, Peter Schickele and others.
