"I've been fortunate to be able to do what I love - writing stories and songs. I consider myself more of a 'gleaner' than a writer. My songs are 'factionalized' accounts, meaning they contain both fact and fiction. I glean from the things people share with me and blend them in to what I write. I've been asked... 'Did that really happen? Is that a true story?' My reply is 'yes and no' - because it may have taken more than one person's story with creative license to craft the song. That's why I like to say 'this song is about a friend of mine...'" --Layton
