Well, what can I say. In a nutshell, I like to write songs and post them on the internet.
To make a short story long, I’ve been playing and writing music since I was little. I wrote my first song when I was 7 on an old Casio keyboard with itty-bitty keys. I used to want to be like John Williams or Enya and write really cool orchestral pieces and New Age-y soundscapes. Then I started writing lyrics, and they were really, really bad. I went to college for music, playing piano, oboe, saxophone, and trombone. But wouldn’t you know, if you play too much, you can hurt yourself. I injured my arm from overuse and had to drop out of school. Fast-forward a few years of not playing any piano or writing any music… that was rough. Then a chiropractor friend fixed my arm, and I picked up the guitar as a new way to get back into music. Guitar must have been the muse I was needing, because I began to write a lot of songs. Then for reasons I’m still not quite sure of, I started posting them on YouTube. Next thing you know, I’m doing gigs here and there and releasing an album. Then I released another one. Crazy stuff, that.
Anyway, I love music, but it’s not all I do. I have two children who keep me on my toes. I’m currently going back to school so I can get a job that pays the bills (because only in a dream world can one eek out a living as a singer-songwriter in Nebraska). I don’t aspire to fame with my music. I just want to write songs that mean something to people; songs that seem to be true and honest about life and how wonderful and difficult it can be.
Thanks for listening,
~Leesha
