Lesley Young

Singer-songwriter Lesley Young was born in Toronto. The 13 original songs on her debut folk jazz album "Symphony for Two," were well received by critics: "a quite stunning indie offering" said Kerry Doole, of impact magazine, 1994. "Shines with inspiration...the music is rich in texture and tapestry... sultry and sparkling guitar...' wrote critic Gary 17, of the underground to-nite magazine. The title track from her second release "INSIDE," was chosen the 2nd place winner for the 100% Music Competition in France, picked TOP 5 finalist in the prestigious international “Song of the Year Songwriting Competition folk category, and Songwriters Universe Songwriting Competition acoustic/pop category from 2006 - 2007. " ....irresistible old school tunes that boast sturdy hooks, sparse but tasteful accompaniment and a cool, clear voice that cuts through the typical tortured, “chip on my shoulder” singer-songwriter syndrome as a buoyant, uplifting alternative. The star of the show is Young’s crystalline vocal tone and soft, breathy asides..." Eric Thom, Exclaim Magazine. The lyrics for her ballad "Deschenes Avenue" and her personal recollections were published as part of a local history book - "River, Road and Rail - Woodroffe North Bicentennial Memories” Canada, in 2011. Lesley teamed up for the production and recording of her single version of "Dangerous," with her longtime musical collaborator and and partner john McKay-Clements. It was released in Amsterdam. Recently the musical collaboration led to them living and touring in Europe. They now live in Montreal. A collection of songs they recorded in Edinburgh, will be released on an album in 2015.
