…is a combination of the first and middle names of Portland, Oregon musician Levi Ethan Cecil. People often mistake his name for LeviAthan, the mythical sea beast of yore. Leviethan is a veteran of such idiosyncratic Northwest bands as Heroes & Villains, Brothers Young and Clock. He released his first solo album, Monuments In Memory of Nothing So Far, in 2007 to critical acclaim. After hearing numerous people saying things like, “I love your album, I always play it for friends and they love it too,” he decided to take a unique approach to releasing a follow-up.

Leviethan realized that in the digital age, the business model of making physical copies of music, and trying to find consumers of said product, was fading fast. In the spring of 2009, he sent a proposal to family, friends and fans. For a small “investment” of twenty dollars, each contributor would receive two copies of the finished CD. This allowed him to raise the funds to manufacture and distribute the album before its completion. It also enlisted contributors in the actual distribution and promotion of the music. The idea behind this campaign was in essence: instead of passively consuming music after the fact, why not invest in its creation and promotion? In other words, put your money where your mouth is!

The result of this successful campaign, Everything Is Fine, is being released on Leviethan’s own Emeritus Records on September 1st, 2009. The album contains 11 songs recorded in and around Portland. Members of Loch Lomond, Portland Cello Project, the Nick Jaina Band and Heroes & Villains helped to perform the songs in the studio. The CD is a hand-numbered, limited edition of 500, and each contributor is personally thanked in the liner notes. The album is also available from iTunes and through other digital outlets.
