Lindianne at the Piano, Arctic Child Suite is an instrumental CD of my piano compositions, now available through CDbaby.
Jean Aspen and Tom Irons commissioned me to compose music to add to the score of Arctic Son, a video documentary
recently screened at the Anchorage Film Festival and due to be shown on PBS. The music expresses the
emotions of Tom and Jean's son Luke, who was seven years old when the family undertook a fifteen month
adventure north of the Arctic Circle. Flying, Arctic Country, Winter is Coming, Log Cabin Moving in Day, Sacred
Gift Moose, Grieving Child and Attending Angel,Too Wild to Stay, Arctic Spring, On the River: these themes
captured my imagination with an opportunity to express my love for Alaska and my admiration for the human
qualities needed to survive and thrive in the Alaskan bush.
Music Supervisor Brian Smith, a film maker of Homer, Alaska, ably guided me in the composition of these
themes. Producer Milo Matthews recorded all tracks at LoveLifeMusic Studios in Homer, Alaska. Alaskan
luthier Ray DeMeo loaned me his magnificant viola of Alaskan spruce for the recording of Arctic Country and
Winter is Coming. Alaskan graphics artist/guitarist Bob Parsons did a beautiful job on the CD jacket.
The CD is rounded out with a dozen more compositions. Sunrise Kilcher Sjoeberg provided lovely vocals
for one song, Perfect Friends; Sunrise is my perfect friend and I am delighted we could collaborate on this
song. Only one song has vocals; the rest of the CD is instrumental.
American Man, a CD by Lindianne
Press release and artist bio, March 21, 2012 Homer, Alaska
Singer-songwriter-composer Lindianne’s CD, titled American Man, Freedom Songs from the Peace Line, is scheduled for release March 21, 2012. Co-produced in Homer, Alaska with musician extraordinaire Milo Matthews, the CD features 17 original folk songs in Lindianne’s voice, reminiscent of Joan Baez and Buffy Ste. Marie, accompanied by her acoustic guitar, fiddle and piano, and spiced with Milo Matthews’ tasty bass guitar licks. Country, blues, folk, jazz, baroque, rock and gospel styles mingle in Lindianne’s music.
An adventurous soul with a life story that spans from New York City and Princeton University to the Alaskan bush, troubadour Lindianne reports stories the mainstream news media often ignore. Cannabis Sativa-Yay sings the heart of America’s besieged medical cannabis culture. Long White Line is a campaign song for bicycle safety. Hard Rock Miner honors Art Sappington and the western artisan miners bravely and lawfully resisting federal claim jumping, a grievously under-reported story. King Arthur of Brooklyn is a Vietnam vet who “came back different to the core.” Hoka Hey Home tells of Lindianne’s epic journey by bicycle and boat to freedom in Alaska. This Time We Are Staying introduces an Irish-Cherokee farm family who won’t give up their farm.
Lindianne is a gardener and farmers marketer who advocates for local agriculture. An accomplished author, Lindianne researched and wrote Greensleeves, an historical novel of Ireland that depicts a pastoral/agricultural economy and explores the history of the famous song. She also recorded a folk piano CD including Variations on Greensleeves. Currently she is composing music for a documentary film, Arctic Son.
Lindianne and her sweetheart Bumppo are a renaissance couple who live by their arts and principles: fish Kachemak Bay, grow food, gather herbs and mushrooms, design and build boats, shelter, and clothing. A self-employed entrepreneur, Lindianne says. “I saw the destruction of rural America. My elite educated friends don’t understand the gravity of what happened. Fifty million farmers were driven from the land. Each farm supported 30 jobs in the economy. What’s wrong with America’s economy? You do the math. I decided to communicate this truth popularly with a CD of contemporary folk songs and a songbook with lyrics, manuscript, and essays about the songs’ culture and history.”
Lindianne says, “I tell the truth in a cheeky way. Some folks hear Cannabis Sativa-Yay and say, you can’t sell a song about that, while many others say thank you for singing the truth. My niche is to sing what folks are scared to say out loud. America has free speech, and, as Jesus said, the truth shall set you free. Let’s get beyond war.” That is the spirit of American Man, Freedom Songs from the Peace Line.
Lindianne and Bumppo plan to take The Freedom Show on a whistle-stop tour of America in the fall of 2012. Lindianne’s CD is available at CD Baby and lindianne.com. To order the songbook, or to book The Freedom Show, visit lindianne.com.
