Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopes spent ten years in the public eye as a member of the popular performing group TLC. The successful group sold more than 20 million albums, won four Grammy Awards, and redefined the landscape of contemporary hip hop and rap music in the process. Lisa contributed to albums by Melanie C and Mya, and branched out on her own with a solo album, Supernova, completed in 2001. In the fall of 2001 Lopes reunited with TLC members Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas for the group's fourth album.
Nicknamed REIGNDROP by her friends because, “she is as tiny as a raindrop,” her diminutive size betrays her explosive energy in the same manner that her vibrant, “forever young” look betrays her wittiness. “When some people look at me, they think I am this naïve little girl. They think they can run all over me, you know? I just sit back and reflect on everything.” Indeed, her lyrics paint her reflections in a deliciously written and sometimes humorous way. REIGNDROP LOPES continues, “Run all over me? Not! I just think, ‘thanks, you just gave me material for a new song.” Then I hit the studio!”
For those who simply must put music in neat little boxes, REIGNDROP LOPES says of her musical style, “It is definitely hot, ‘rocked out’ hiphop.” She enjoys Aerosmith, Doug E. Fresh & Slick Rick, Missy Elliot, Linkin Park, Eminem, Alanis Morissette, Evanescence and many others. As for her rap flow, it has a Rock edge that stylistically differs from the norm, which uniquely grants her the title of: 1st Lady of Hip-Rock.
Some of her lyrics are autobiographical and introspective, while others are delightful fantasy. And still, “some are written as if I am walking in another person’s shoes. I try to capture life through their eyes.” Of the autobiographical songs, one strums the social chord of abuse.
Growing up an army brat REIGNDROP LOPES has been exposed to a variety of cultures, therefore having a strong crossover appeal. Her intense passion for life is that which drives her passion for music. Her music is therapy for anyone who has experienced hurt, love, or betrayal.
REIGNDROP LOPES has crafted a musical sound all her own. The sound is warmly familiar, yet refreshingly distinct from anything you’ve heard. The sound is Hip.
The sound is Rock. The sound is REIGNDROP!
