Louis Matteo is a multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter, hailing from Ohio. Louis began playing music at age 9, picking out melodies by ear on his grandmother's keyboard. Countless shows with teenage punk bands and high school wind ensemble concerts later, Louis made his way to Boston in 2004 to study at the No. 1 contemporary music school in the world, Berklee College of Music. In 2007, he graduated with his debut EP, entitled Confront The Congregation, recorded and released.
Guitar in hand, Louis crafts heart-on-the-sleeve tales teeming with visceral, imagery-laden lyrics, blending the organic earth tones of the acoustic guitar, the spice of dirty electric guitar grit, the dark tint of driving bass lines, and the pulse of propulsive drum beats into a refreshing collection of folk rock/indie pop music.
The EP was produced, engineered and mixed at Cockpit Studios by Jas Wray of Son of Murphy Productions and mastered by Jonathan Wyner (Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen) at M-Works Mastering Studios.
Confront the Congregation is a hearty stew of acoustic guitar-driven indie folk music. Imagine James Mercer (The Shins) teaming up with Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie) in a Ben Folds/Elliott Smith-inspired group.
Louis Matteo has performed at The Fireside Bowl (Chicago, IL), All Asia Bar, The Bell-in-Hand Tavern, The Abbey Lounge (Boston, MA), Arlene's Grocery, The Bitter End, The Village Lantern, Galapagos Art Space/now Public Assembly, Bar East, Uncle Mikes, Sidewalk Cafe, Otto's Shrunken Head, National Underground, Crash Mansion, Don Hills, Sullivan Hall, Fontana's, LIVE @ Best Buy-Chelsea, Spike Hill, The Studio at Webster Hall (NYC), Peabody's, The Grog Shop, Agora Ballroom (Cleveland, OH), including several independent tours, opening for bands such as Northstar, Ozma, The Goodwill, and Unsung Zeros.
Louis currently resides in New York City. He is currently finishing his full-length album at The Lovely Light with Brooklyn-based producer, Saul Simon MacWilliams (best known for his work with The Age of Rockets). Member of AFTRA/ASCAP.
