Luis Nubiola was born in Cuba. After studying under the class of Carlos Averhoff and graduating from the National Musical Conservatory Amadeo Roldan, Luis Nubiola was invited to get on stage by several notable Cuban jazz musicians such as Jose Luis Cotes (El Tosco), José Miguel Credo (El Greco), Díakara. Luis Nubiola also has participated in several musical workshops and shared stage with Paquito D'Rivera, Danilo Peres, Gonzalo Rubalcava, George Benson, Steve Coleman and Ralf Irizarry, among others.
In the year 2001, Luis Nubiola moved to Costa Rica where he became one of the finest and most renowned musicians in the area working with artists such as Walter Flores (Grammy winner), Robert Aguilar and “Chocolate Band”, to name a few. In December, 2005 he recorded his first CD, a musical production under the name of “Nubiola”. In December, 2008, Luis Nubiola produced “Live at Jazz Café” the first Jazz DVD ever recorded in Costa Rica. Produced by DART. This DVD is a live version of “Nubiola” CD which within the same year, made him the winner of the ACAM award as “Composer of the Year in Jazz Genre”.
In his new material “914”, also awarded as Best Album of the Year 2009, was a double DVD/CD produced also by DART, The artist reveals the dimensions of his own musical evolution. The main rule to approach Nubiola’s musical work is to understand his different ways of expression. As a performer, Nubiola possesses a refined technique on his musical language, which consolidates his own ideas along with expressiveness.
Luis Nubiola’s creative element makes us deal with singular master works of Latin Jazz which produce a very unusual ecstasy in our jazz musical environment.

Currently Luis Nubiola lives in Europe where he has been working with musicians like Leszek Możdżer, Zbigniew Namysłowski ,Paweł Kaczmarczyk, Grzegorz Grzyb, José Manuel Albán Juárez, Michael Baranski, Włodek Pawlik, and many others .
His latest project is the "Luis Nubiola Trio” and his new release: "Memories from the Baltic", he is promoting his work and recording new material with two great musicians from Poland: Marcin Chenczke (bass) and Mariusz Koszel (drums). With these young and talented artists, Luis Nubiola makes an interesting fusion with aspects of his Cuban culture and the recognized tradition of Polish jazz, whilst incorporating aspects of the traditional folk music of both cultures.
