Luke Flynn

Luke Flynn (b. 1988) is currently a graduate assistant in music composition at Butler University, where he studies with Dr. Michael Schelle. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Clarke University, where he studied with Dr. Amy Dunker, and is the recipient of the University’s most prestigious award honored to a single graduating senior, the Francis J. O’Connor Memorial Award. Flynn has also had the privilege of being the first ever American student to study music composition at the International University of Kagoshima in Japan, where he studied with Dr. Tadashi Kubo. Flynn’s compositions have been performed all throughout the world, including commissions and performances by professional symphony orchestras in countries such as Japan, Ukraine, China, South Korea, and throughout the U.S. He has also won or has placed as a finalist in many national and international compositions contests. Most recently, he was a finalist for the 2013 American Prize in Composition, a winner of the 2013 SCI/ASCAP Student Composition Competition (region 5), San Jose Choral Project Composition Competition, a finalist in the Susanville Symphony Orchestra Composition Contest and for the New York International Composition Contest for Sacred Music. Flynn has also scored many theatrical works, films, and video games, of which have received multiple awards, including being a semifinalist for the 2013 Zurich International Film Festival Film Scoring Contest, and winner of the 2011 American College Theater Festival “Best Original Score” award.
