Luke Flynn

Luke Flynn (b. 1988) is currently a graduate assistant in music composition at Butler University, where he studies with Dr. Michael Schelle. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Clarke University, where he studied with Dr. Amy Dunker, and is the recipient of the University’s most prestigious award honored to a single graduating senior, the Francis J. O’Connor Memorial Award. Flynn has also had the privilege of being the first-ever American student to study music composition at 鹿児島国際大学, the International University of Kagoshima in Japan, where he studied with Dr. Tadashi Kubo. Flynn’s compositions have been performed all throughout the world, including commissions and performances by professional symphony orchestras in countries such as Japan, Ukraine, China, South Korea, and throughout the U.S. He has also won or has placed as a finalist in many national and international composition contests. Most recently, he was a winner of the Young New Yorkers’ Chorus Composition Competition, the SCI/ASCAP Student Composition Competition (region 5 winner, national finalist), the American Prize in Composition, the San Jose Choral Project Composition Competition, the Susanville Symphony Orchestra Composition Contest and the New York International Composition Contest for Sacred Music. Flynn has also scored many theatrical works, films, trailers, and video games, of which have received multiple national and international awards; most recently, the Original Film Score award at the 2014 Indie Gathering Film Festival in Ohio, and the American College Theater Festival “Best Original Score” award.
