I’ve loved Antonio Carlos Jobim’s music for as long as I’ve been singing. When I was 13, I sat down with Nancy Reed for my first voice lesson and “The Girl From Ipanema” was the first tune I learned. From that point forward I became enamored with the music of Jobim and made it a point to learn as many songs of his I could.
The title of this album — “Familia” — is totally appropriate considering that my Dad and Mom are featured here but also because chances are without them I never would have been interested in music. I feel extremely lucky to have grown up in the household I did with such amazing musicians as parents who exposed me to so much. I’m thrilled to be sharing the music with them on this recording.
All in all, I’m very proud of this album and honored to have recorded with — besides my parents — Tony, Marko, Phil and Vic. Having known all of them since I was born, they’re all considered to be part of my family-like four uncles who happen to be extremely hip and talented. I hope you like what you hear.
