Born in Los Angeles but raised in Watts, California, The youngest of six children, Donald Bell began singing at the tender age of eight, even then showing a vocal presence beyond his years. Raised in the church and part of a musical family, Donald developed a strong spiritual base singing gospel music.
A Music & Business Major in college Donald produced jingles for several companies and wrote and produced tracks for artists on such labels as Epic, Jumpin Jack & Gallery II Records.
Also professionally known as “Donnie B”, he plays several instruments and has developed a multifaceted style of writing and producing which includes, R&B, Rap, Salsa, Pop, Reggae, Jazz, Neo Soul, Rock, Hip-Hop and Gospel. This makes him without a doubt one of the most talented songwriter-producers around.
Also a professional, he also worked as an accountant for several entertainment companies such as: Warner Music Group, 20th Century Fox and MGM
He has been influenced by an array of well-known artists such as Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Rance Allen, The Winans, The Mighty Clouds Of Joy, Darryl Coley, Andre Crouch, Luther Vandross, Earth Wind and Fire, The Gap Band, The Jackson 5, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, New Edition and Aretha Franklin just to name a few.
His voice is instantly recognizable since his first release in the early 90's entitled "The World Needs Love", on BBI Record, and in 2000 he released his first full Cd project called “Life Stories” In which he wrote, Arranged and produced all the songs. Now Donnie B is on the horizon of releasing his long awaited sophomore CD entitled 10969 Back II Basic.
Also a talented actor, Donald appeared in several movies and TV shows, the last being “Norbit” in 2007 with superstar comedian Eddie Murphy
Donnie B is currently the lead singer of the legendary funk band “SLAVE” and has worked with and shared the stage with such greats as: The Gap Band, Charlie Wilson, Zapp, Lalah Hathaway, Earth Wind & Fire, Michele’le, The Bar Kays, The Mary Jane Girls, Con-Funk-Shun, Rose Royce, Lakeside, Morris Day & The Time, Atlantic Star, Cameo, Klymaxx, Larry Graham, Chico Debarge, Brick, The Dazz Band, Carl Carlton, Lenny Williams, Denise Williams, The Dramatics, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, & the late great Teena Marie, to name a few.
Donald says that his main base is GOD and that spirituality has kept him humble over the years. His favorite saying is: “Life is Music, Music is Love and Love is GOD
