Michael Agyei, also known as Lyrical Soldier, is a preacher, singer, rapper and a spoken word poet. In a nutshell, he truly is the epitome of a ‘Lyrical
Evangelist’. Through his God-given use of words in song and through preaching, he is able to draw and plant a seed of interest in the minds of
people as to who Jesus Christ is. Lyrical Soldier, born and raised in London but with a Ghanaian heritage, is also a dynamic motivational speaker who uses his powerful gift of speech to equip and challenge young people. Growing up in South London, he has witnessed first-hand, the struggles that young people face and the consequences of being trapped in a life of crime.
Lyrical Soldier’s love for music and creativity with words continued to grow throughout his teenage years and in 2006 he became one of the founding members of the Garage/Grime group known as Militant Souljaz which included ‘up and coming’ artist Mr Silva. However, it was in the year 2008 that the ministry of Lyrical Soldier started whilst he was studying in the United States. It was here that Lyrical was blessed with the opportunity to work with two very talented singer/songwriters; Maria Bryd (now Maria Robertson) and Jalessa Williams. It was in America that Lyrical soldier was able to record his first songs. In 2009, Lyrical Soldier signed to EMUSIK MANAGEMENT where he released his first official single “Introduce ME” feat the MOBO Nominated group Ekklesia. The year 2010 saw Lyrical Soldier winning the “NEXT BIG ACT” Category of the African Gospel Music Awards which was a great achievement. On the Saturday 23rd July 2011, Lyrical Soldier took the Gospel Message to the heart of London with his highly successful Concert - “Premier Gospel Presents: Lyrical Soldier LIVE in
Concert” at which he also released his second single ‘Unconditional’. The year 2011 also saw Lyrical Soldier winning the category of ‘Best Rap Artist’ at the GMA Ireland Music Awards and headlining a Youth Conference in Sydney, Australia.
Michael also travels the world with International motivational speaker and Educational Consultant Pastor Eddie Hypolite, delivering the life-changing seminar “How to be A Player”. The aim of the project is to help young people develop the tools necessary to deal with the sub-cultic world of street culture and
= the challenges of adolescence. The programme seeks to challenge the negative aspects of youth and street culture and gives young people the mental, emotional and social tools they need to feel empowered to reach outside of their immediate borders and wider their horizons of self-development. As said by Revolutionist, Nelson Mandela, “If you talk to a man in a language he understands it goes to his head. But if you talk to a man in his language it goes to his heart”. It is this philosophy that has fuelled Lyrical Soldier’s passion to have a positive influence on young people though his style of music.
The future is bright and holds many blessings for Lyrical Soldier who is already working hard towards the release of his debut album ‘The Transition’. Lyrical soldier is a unique, expressive and inspirational young artist who has worked very hard to get to where he is today and recognises that with Christ all things are possible. Having completed his MSc in Haematology at Kingston University, Lyrical Soldier, is a great example that faith, focus and determination can drive you to achieve the best of your God-given ability, even in the midst of hardship and struggles.
