MC Tendai was born Tendai Kelvin Nkonde on June 28, 1977 in Hwange, Zimbabwe - just 1 hour from the famous Victoria Falls. He`s lived and performed in Zimbabwe, Ethiopia and Japan.
Tendai started song writing and performing at a young age - to anyone who would listen. "Drove my father mad," Tendai jokes. "I always keep a thesaurus in my pocket, playing with words and rhymes. I can`t help it, lyrics are always in my mind needing to be written out. Then, they need to be spoken and creatively expressed. This is the basis of my rap. I feel compelled to perform and let it out. It`s a very personal thing - performing my creations. It`s a part of me that I resisted for a long time. Now, I understand, it`s just something I`ve got to do to keep myself whole."
Tendai has always delivered positive rap with Tupac as a major influence. He collaborates with hip hop, reggae and R&B performers. Starting out in Zimbabwe and Ethiopia, he took on the stage name "TK" in honour of his father. In Japan, the fans starting calling him M.C Tendai out of admiration for his skills. The name stuck and caught fire. Flipping from "TK" to "M.C Tendai" was natural for me. At that time, my life was transforming; and so was my music. I`ve come into myself and want to express that through my rap music.
Tendai`s lyrical poetry forms the base of his conscious rap. He works in hip hop, dancehall and R&B flavors to deliver his powerful messages on life, love and God. He is a rapper, songwriter, poet, hip hop dancer and proud father.
Tendai now resides and performs in Japan.
