Mad June

Biography

Two thousand years ago, before the birth of the world as we know it, there lived June. Tired of eating soggy bread every day, June decided to cook the breakfast bread on the rocks heated by fire. Amazed by the crunchy texture and the fiery taste, June spread the word about burnt “Toast”. No one agreed, they feared change and difference and insisted June was Mad.

Skip forward to 2005, four people were making toast, when the smell of the cooking breakfast bread inspired them to form a band together and create music in the honor of June. They thought that if they could be a band that would encourage difference, question all and make its own rules, life would be grand!!! So they let their toast burn, the smoke detector ring, and went down to the basement to write some songs. After months of basement bliss, it was time to share, so they crawled toward the light and started playing shows...they haven’t stopped since and life is grand!

As an independent “Do It Yourself” rock band having access to technology, Mad June released their debut album, We’re Not Strangers on November 21st, 2009. To record their tunes, they promised Montreal's rising star producer and drummer Étienne Dupuis-Cloutier (Coeur de Pirate, Half Baked, Balboa, Le Citoyen) unlimited breakfasts of toasts and peanut butter...he just couldn't resist and there began their collaboration. Later on, Luc Papineau (The Box, Les Triplettes de Belleville) joined the happy tribe and did the mastering of the album.

In October 2009, Mad June was selected to play a showcase during IndieWeek Music Fest in Toronto. Bob Segarini from FYI Music News saw their act and wrote in his blog: “I was fortunate to catch an amazing hard rock quartet from Montreal called Mad June, four of the most talented female players I have ever heard (…)!”.

On December 1st 2009, CHARTattack’s publisher Edward Skira reviewed their song, The Stranger Ones saying: “It's Bloc Party-esque bouncy indie rock(...)”.
Mad June’s performance at Le Medley in October 2008 is featured in the documentary “Rebelles The Movie”, that came out Fall 2009 and is being distributed across Canada.
Les Frères du Son will also feature the band in a documentary coming out Winter 2010.
